“I’ve done it!”
The universal cry of exasperation after success. After what may have seemed to be the hardest math problem ever. After your first marathon. After your debut on stage.
In Chinese, we say, “我做到了!” (wǒ zuò dào le!) to express this feeling.
In fact, when you’ve finished something, you can use “到” (dào) to express the fact that something has been completed – done.
(wǒ dào le)
When you arrive back home to see the waiting arms of your bed.
(zhè gè nǐ zuò bù dào ma?)
(Can you not do this?)
When your friends are boasting about how good they’re doing in life.
(shuō zhōng wén, wǒ yě kě yǐ zuò dào!)
(I can also speak Chinese!)
